Five stars won’t get you out of this room.

Nearly every venue here has a near-perfect rating. So stars won’t tell you who books, why they came, or what sends them away. The words in the reviews will. Four locks. Real numbers. Crack them and the door opens.

Out of every 100 reviews, how many give five stars?

Slide to your guess. Each key on the wall below is one review in every hundred.

It’s 93.

Tap a number to read one of those reviews.

Nearly every venue looks perfect. Of the 30 venues with at least 30 reviews, 23 round to 4.8 stars or better. A high rating gets you on the list. It doesn’t tell a guest why to pick you, and it doesn’t tell you why they came.

More than 9 in every 10 reviews give five stars.

Guests pay for a puzzle. What do they write about?

One of these comes up far more than the others. Point the spotlight at it.

It’s the host.

Guests book a puzzle and review a person. The host comes up about four times as often as puzzle design.

Lock 3 of 4

Now turn the lights off.

Only 231 of the 13,186 reviews gave 1 or 2 stars. We read the 206 with words in them, twice, and wrote what went wrong on this wall in invisible ink. Run the lamp over it. Tap a line for the guest’s own words.

0 of 10 found. Counts are of the 187 about a visit, and a review can say more than one thing.

Two in three mention how the visit was run.

125 of the 187 complain about the host, the explanation, the booking, the wait or the group. None of that needs a new room to fix.

Seven kinds of guest. Who is at the door?

We sorted the 2,056 reviewers who said why or with whom they came. Read the note, then open the door it belongs to.

How this was counted

13,186 public reviews of 44 venues, posted from November 2025 to November 2026. 9,121 were long enough to read, 8,938 of those were about a visit, and 2,056 said why or with whom they came. A group’s share is of those reviewers, not of all customers.

The wall in lock 3 is not in the report. 231 reviews gave 1 or 2 stars and 206 had words in them. 19 were about a bar on site or off the subject, leaving 187. Each was read twice, independently, and every disagreement was settled by reading the review again. Quotes are copied word for word, with names left out.
